Sex Advice

Dear Dr. Locker: I'm sleeping with a woman who needs artificial lube no matter what. Is it me?

Answer from Dr. Locker

Probably not, but it could be. According to the Durex Sexual Wellbeing Survey, nearly half (49%) of American women have had vaginal dryness across all age ranges. There are some women who naturally don’t lubricate much. This could be caused by things like: stress in their lives, a medication they’re taking, or their hormone levels. There is always the chance that she is simply not getting turned on enough during you sexual interactions. Ask her about it. Ask if she has used lubricant for a long time, or if it is new to her. Ask her why she likes it. Ask her if there are things that you can do to get her more turned on. If she assures you that she is totally turned on, and she has enjoyed using store-bought lube for years, then her lubrication issue is not about you. But if she busts out her list of sexual suggestions, then maybe you could be a more giving lover. By the way, giving her oral sex is a way you could provide the lube (your saliva).
