Sex Advice

Dear Dr. Locker: How long should sex take?

Answer from Dr. Locker

Sex "should" last as long as you and your partner want it to last. Sex research has found that intercourse most often lasts between 3 and 10 minutes, but foreplay lasts about twice as long.

If you want the sexual encounter to last longer, take your time with other things. Learn to be a great kisser, who’s sexually creative, willing to please your partner orally and manually, and be passionate enough so that whether intercourse lasts three minutes or thirty minutes, you’ll both be having fun during that time.

Also, many women would be quite pleased to have a lover who offers variety in timing -- sometimes a quickie can be great, and other times, a marathon session hits the spot.

By the way: If you are a guy who wants to last longer, I can give you tips for that, too! Read my answer to this question:
