Dear Dr. Locker: What foods change the taste of semen?
Answer from Dr. Locker
The taste of semen can be slightly influenced by what a man eats. The following may not make major changes, but if you experiment, you should notice subtle differences. Coffee can make it bitter. Sweet fruits, like pineapple and tangerines, can make it taste sugary. Steak may make it taste more salty. Asparagus may give semen a tangy flavor. Celery and parsley may make semen more mild. Garlic may make it musky. The flavor of cinnamon may be carried in the semen. A couple of things to keep in mind: the taste of semen may take from 3 to up to 12 hours to be affected by any of these substances. Also, remember, no matter what you try, the basic taste is the same. Incidentally, semen contains mostly proteins and sugars, and between 10 and 50 calories per ejaculation. Also, you should know that sometimes STIs and HIV can be carried in semen.
